With over thirty-five years of business bankruptcy experience in regional and national cases, Steve advises on all aspects of bankruptcy and out-of-court workouts. He represents the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), the largest creditor in the City of Vallejo chapter 9. His recent chapter 11 clients include the Creditors' Committee in Heller Erhman, equity in SK Foods, the holding company for a bank seized by state and federal regulators, and several residential and commercial real estate developers. He has been special bankruptcy counsel to the California Attorney General in Pacific Lumber, PG&E, Worldcom, and Enron.

Steve received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University at Buffalo in 1968, and his Juris Doctor from Hastings College of Law in 1973. Following law school he clerked for the Honorable Thomas J. MacBride, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.

Steve is a Fellow of the prestigious American College of Bankruptcy and is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell. He has been recognized for over twenty years by The Best Lawyers in America , and more recently in Super Lawyers of Northern California, Who’s Who In America and Who’s Who in American Law. He lectures extensively on bankruptcy and commercial law issues for, among others, the California Continuing Education of the Bar, the Practicing Law Institute, and as an adjunct professor at University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. He has authored and co-authored numerous articles on bankruptcy issues. He was a founding director of the Sacramento Valley Bankruptcy Forum and its president in 1994. In 1999 he was elected President of the statewide California Bankruptcy Forum. He was a member of the Insolvency Law Committee (2000-2002) and the Uniform Commercial Code Committee (1983 to 1985) of the Business Law Section of the California State Bar.
